Application Engineer

  • The Applications Engineer supports sales, engineering, and end-users by providing technical expertise in abrasive air blast processes, equipment selection, and surface preparation requirements. This role evaluates customer applications, recommends appropriate blasting media, equipment, and process parameters, and ensures proposed solutions meet surface requirements, production targets, and the customers’ the Job to Be Done (JTBD). The Applications Engineer clearly communicate recommendations through proposals and general arrangement (GA) drawings, including presentations when needed. This position serves as a subject-matter expert for both manual and automated blasting systems, supporting projects from concept through commissioning.

    • Continuous Improvement Focus: Acts as a change agent with a process-first mindset. Encourages analytical thinking, anticipates opportunities and offers thoughtful recommendations for improving performance and productivity.

    • Integral part of Project Management team: partner with field sales to prioritize, opportunities  and deliver on value propositions.

    • Collaborates closely with engineering and manufacturing to align offerings with design build, and strategic standards

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field

    • 3+ years’ experience in a LEAN manufacturing environment preferred

    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD

    • Ability to read technical specifications

    • Experience writing compelling proposals, and estimating costs for custom engineered equipment solutions

    • Excellent critical thinking skills, and ability to analyze information from multiple sources.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and technical communication

    • Understanding of Clemco/abrasive blasting products and surface preparation (preferred)

    • Communicating with employees and customers (speaking and listening)

    • Sitting for extended periods

    • Ability to learn, comprehend, and retain instructions

    • Ability to maintain focus for extended periods of time

    • Written communication with Distributors and customers

    • Participation in meetings with Clemco and customer teams during opportunity management

    • Effective use of technology to communicate

    • Travel to Customer locations up to 25%

    • Face to face meetings with customers to define JTBD, and gather technical information

    • Willingness to engage in constructive conflict to arrive at win/win solutions.

Machine Builder

    • High school diploma or GED.

    • High level of mechanical aptitude to learn and perform moderately complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components to efficiently build our standard equipment.

    • A working knowledge of basic machine tools.

    • General knowledge of mechanics.

    • Conscientious safety mindset.

    • Great attention to detail.

    • Computer literacy and ability/willingness to learn more.

    • Degree is helpful, but not required.

    • Completion of Apprenticeship program or Associates degree will ultimately be required to progress in the role.

    • Some level of formal education related to engineering or manufacturing is highly beneficial to start.

    • Troubleshooting skills and experience required.

    • NEC & UL508a knowledge a plus.

    • Good working understanding of electricity and electrical components.

    • Must be able to read and apply electrical schematics, mechanical and/or electrical drawings and ladder diagrams.

    • Experience in operating a forklift and overhead crane may be required in some areas.

    • Working knowledge of PLCs, programming, machinery sequences of operations, HMI, Ethernet/IP, relays, power supplies, electricity (480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 24VDC).

    • Computer skills.

    • HMI and PLC downloads.

    • Ethernet troubleshooting.

    • Ladder Logic.

    • Assembles and installs standard equipment.

    • Builds and installs electrical and electronic circuitry from schematics, detailed drawings or other instructions.

    • Installs PLCs and other electronics.

    • Uses machine tools, hand tools, multimeters, tow motor, overhead crane and forklifts as needed to accomplish the work.

    • May assist with dismantling equipment after it has been tested to assist in the shipping process when necessary.

    • Proactively works to gain knowledge of other departments, troubleshooting standard or project equipment from drawings or sketches with the mentoring and guidance of more senior or highly skilled technicians.

    • Seeks out and implements continuous quality improvements.

    • Actively participates in LEAN activities such as PDCA, A-3, and Root Cause Analysis activities.

    • Collaborates with leads, supervisors, senior level and highly skilled technicians to develop solutions for customers, demonstrate the equipment’s operations, and find shipping solutions to best protect the equipment during transfer to distributors or customers.

    • May attend seminars or other training to keep skills up to date.

    • Some candidates may be eligible for formal apprenticeship classes as well.

    • Demonstrates flexibility when asked to take on new things.

Warehouse / Shipping & Receiving

    • Put safety first and help create an environment where everyone goes home safe

    • Pick, pack, and prepare orders accurately to support both internal teams and customers

    • Load and unload trucks using proper equipment and safe practices

    • Receive and stock materials in designated locations to maintain strong workflow

    • Replenish inventory to prevent production delays

    • Transport materials throughout the facility to meet operational needs

    • Collaborate across teams to meet daily demand

    • Participate in 5S and continuous improvement efforts to eliminate waste and create flow

    • Support problem-solving activities and use the best-known methods to complete work

    • Step in where needed as business demands evolve

  • The Shipping team member will have responibilities in Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse to meet the needs of Clemco customers.

    • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality

    • Reliable with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

    • Team-oriented with a willingness to help others succeed

    • Ability to lift approximately 50–75 lbs. with appropriate assistance

    • Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused in an active environment

    • Basic computer skills

    • Clear communication and a positive, professional approach to work

    • Willingness to learn and continuously develop

    • Forklift experience is a strong plus. Experience operating powered industrial trucks, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment is highly valued. Training and certification are provided.
